Foodservice Order Selector Sample Questions

For the purposes of this test, the mission of an Order Selector is:

“To provide a quality service to our customers with accuracy and efficiency in a safe, productive manner.”

Interest & Willingness Samples:

This questionnaire lists working conditions which you must accept to become an Order Selector.  Some people find Order Selector work is not for them because of one or more of these conditions.  Successful Order Selectors find these work conditions acceptable; some selectors enjoy these conditions.

Use the following scale to show which statement best describes you:

A.    I would enjoy this work condition and/or it clearly describes me.

B.    I am willing to accept this work condition.

C.    I am not willing to accept this work condition.

The following checklist has pairs of statements which describe people.  In some cases you may feel that both statements describe you, but we want you to choose from the two items in each pair, the one which best describes you.

Critical Incident Sample Questions:

This test is a select sample of situations which Order Selectors must be capable of handling.  Each item represents an actual critical incident that an Order Selector either excelled or failed in the performance of the job.  This test exposes you to those situations which make a significant difference in an Order Selector’s job performance and effectiveness.  Your choice of action reveals your readiness and potential to perform Order Selector work.

1.    You received an order from a customer that seemed unusually large in quantity for that customer.  This customer usually does not order that much of an item.  You should:

A.    Select the item: it must be correct if it is on the order.
B.    Do not select that item and let the customer re-order the correct amount.
C.    Notify your boss.
D.    Ask a co-worker to see if they have picked this type of quantity for the customer.
E.    Notify your boss of the quantity in question for the order, so it can be checked.

2.    When you arrive at work you notice there is going to be overtime.  There are a lot of orders to select and everyone is working hard.  What is the best thing to do?

A.    Work harder and faster but take a few more breaks.
B.    Work at steady pace so you don’t burn out or get tired.
C.    Work through all of your break periods to keep standards.
D.    Work as fast as you can to prove you are a great worker, even if you have to quit pulling orders to rest at the end of your shift.
E.    Try to find simple, small orders so you can keep standards.

3.    You are pulling an order and come to a rack with only one case.  That case is damaged.  What should you do?

A.    Since the damage is slight, ship the case to the customer.
B.    Do not ship the case.  Let the customer reorder the product on their next order.
C.    Report this to your boss so he/she can take care of the damaged product.
D.    Since time is important, back-order the product for the customer.
E.    Check to see if there are any more cases that are not damaged somewhere else.
